Day in the Life: Melanie Auld of Spice Pots tells us about her day
6am
I love the peace in the mornings and get up at this time every day. I drink tea, write in my journal and always do at least 20 minutes of meditation.
7am
I go running. I’m fortunate to live by the beach and have miles of trails on my doorstep. I’m not worth being around if I don’t go running - it levels me.
8.30am

Hide AdI head to work. I love going to the office - my small way of separating work and family life. It’s all consuming being a small business owner and I am quite strict about allowing myself some clear time to focus on work in the morning.
9.30am
I’ll have breakfast. At the moment, it’s granola with our sweet spice, honey and nuts and seeds. And coffee. This is my most productive and busy time. Despite all the challenges of covid, I’ve managed to grow the business in the last year by landing a national listing with Aldi and selling through Weight Watchers. The biggest change has been adapting our systems to the growing demand. It’s been challenging for my team too, especially with homeschooling. But we manage to work remotely and catch up every morning.
1.30pm
Lunch is more often than not leftovers - I always cook more than we need for one meal. This might be a spicy dhal with a mini naan bread or a tasty veggie stir fry.
3.30pm
I head home and continue to work at the kitchen table. This time is not nearly as focused - there are constant interruptions mostly involving snack requests from my three sons.
7pm
Dinner is a lovely part of our day and catch up time. My husband Al now does at least half of the cooking and the boys like his food better than mine. I would live off veggie curry but the boys like meat, so Al has become head chef. I’m delighted.
8pm
Al and I will watch a movie or binge watch the latest series. I may or may not stay awake. I’m always first to bed.
