THE Wilton Church Fete later this month is hosting a village show competition for the first time.
The annual event at the Dickson Street church is being held on Saturday, August 30, and townsfolk are being urged to take part in its debut village show – which will include entries from jam and jellies, to dressed onions.

Wilton Church member an
d village show organiser Gillian Morgan told the Hawick News: "The whole idea is really to create an old-fashioned village show, much like Hawick used to have with the Legion Show. During last year's Fete a similar type of chidren's competition was really successful, so we hope to resurrect a village show that will continue on year after year."

Gillian added: "We have handed out a lot of leaflets around the town and hope a lot of people enjoy taking part and come along."
All are welcome to enter the village show, with all items on display in the church. Entries must be handed in on Friday, August 29, before 6pm.
The Church Fete will run from 10.30am until 3pm, and includes an array of various stalls, and in the grounds there will be pony rides, face painting and games and bacon rolls and burgers. In the hall there will be morning coffee, soup and roll between 12.30pm and 1.30pm, and afternoon cream teas from 1.30pm until 2.30pm.

There will also be a visit from Hawick Scout Pipe Band at 11.30am.
