Moray police launch county-wide manhunt after attempted armed robbery

Police in Moray are hunting for a man who brandished a bladed weapon at staff in a shop in Buckie yesterday, before fleeing empty handed.

Detectives appealed for witnesses to the attempted robbery, which happened on St Paul Street at around 4:45pm on Monday, November 23, to come forward.

Officers said an as-yet unidentified man entered the convenience store, demanding money and brandishing a bladed weapon at a member of staff.

Nobody was hurt during the incident, and the man fled empty handed, running in the direction of Barfield Road.

Police are working to identify the man, who is described as between 25 and 40 years old, and between 5’6” and 5’10” tall.

He was wearing a dark hooded top and grey jogging trousers.

Detective Sergeant Robbie Williams, of Elgin CID, said: "Fortunately no one was injured but it was an upsetting incident for the staff member involved.

"We are carrying out extensive enquiries in the area, including careful study of the available CCTV footage.

"I would urge anyone who was in the area around the time or who has any other information which could help our investigation to come forward.

"Anyone who may have dashcam or private CCTV footage is asked to review it and pass on anything notable to us.

"If you can help then please call 101, quoting incident 2180 of 23 November.”
