AS THE Scottish Parliament met for the last time before the referendum Alex Salmond urged Scots not to hand control over the nation’s destiny back to Westminster and vote Yes to independence.

The Yes camp received a boost from the Adam Smith Institute, which said Scotland could “thrive” if it kept the pound without the backing of the Bank of England.

However, the pro-independence campaign was rocked by an intervention by Sir Ian Wood, a man the First Minister has hailed as “an authority on North Sea oil and gas”, warned that Scotland’s oil could run out in just 35 years.
