Drivers look for ‘geek-chic’ in second-hand market

Second-hand car drivers are going for a “geek chic” look when it comes to choosing a vehicle, according to a new survey.

Cars originally seen as “nerdy” are now among the most desirable to motorists aged under 40, research by breakdown company Britannia Rescue has revealed.

The sought after models include 2001 to 2003 Honda Civics, Ford Sierras, Vauxhall Cavaliers, and Ford Capris, which features in the TV series The Only Way is Essex. Of the 1,115, 18 to 38-year-olds surveyed, a fifth thought older motors more stylish than modern ones, with 18 per cent thinking they were less likely to depreciate in value.
