Caithness 11 Hawick YM 27

WITH players unavailable and several out injured, Hawick YM had to dig deep to get the victory.
The opening try of the game came for the home side, and it was no surprise that it was the result of a few pick-up-and-drives which sucked the YM defence in. With Will Milne giving Billy Lilly the slip to nip over the line.

This was the wake-up ca
ll the visitors needed and from the restart, Scott McLeod made a great break. The resultant ruck saw Caithness give away a penalty and an easy three points for Dean McCracken. The YM now started to play some nice rugby with young Ross Gibson and Craig Rodgerson making great breaks. The Reds then set up a ruck on the opposition 22 and the ball was fed along the line. Lee Armstrong burst onto it and split the defence to run in for a great try. McCracken landed the conversion.

YM were now in control and added to their tally with another penalty from McCracken. Half-time was looming and the visitors were still dominating. Armstrong made another impressive break and from the resultant ruck, Mark Young picked up and fed Gibson, who scored in the corner. McCracken added the two points.

After the turnaround, YM found themselves pinned in their own 22 for the first 10 minutes, and gave away two penalties which Doug Wright kicked to reduce the deficit.

But the Redsins then picked themselves up to score the try of the day. The hosts cleared into the YM 22 and Graeme Renwick started the attack by beating two men. He then fed Hamish Neish who slipped by the winger and was one on one with the full-back, who he took out wide. Neish then popped the ball to the supporting Jamie Tinlin, who romped in under the posts.
