Hawick Linden 63 Earlston 0

SOME lovely running rugby saw Linden cruising to a comprehensive victory over East League Division Two leaders Earlston at a soft and muddy Wilton Lodge Park.
The visitors started with some early pressure, but that soon gave way as the floodgates opened for the Linden. A burst from his own half by the Hawick side's skipper Lee Stewart, taken on by Brian Wear, laid the foundations for the first try. The bal
l then being fed out to Graeme Anderson who sent Darrel Gray in for the score.

After a searing break by scrum-half Stuart Campbell and a cross kick from Steven Bouglas, Craig Black touched down for the Hawick side's second. Steven Bouglas then broke from his own half for a fine solo effort and followed it up almost from kick off with a second try after fine work by flanker Rory Smith.

Wear then went in at the posts, before Steven Bouglas completed his hat-trick of tries. With the Linden now in total command, good interplay between Steven Bouglas, Greg Cunningham and Wear saw Black shoot through a gap in the visitors' defence for his second touchdown.

After a hack and chase by Steven Bouglas, Barrie Keown played a perfect pass to Greg Bouglas to score in the corner.

Graeme Anderson kicked three conversions and was next on the scoresheet with a converted try.

Greg Bouglas and Gray grabbed their second touchdowns of the afternoon, after which the referee blew his whistle early to finish the game.

THE Linden are hoping for a good attendance at the forthcoming ex-players' day on Saturday, November 22. The event gets under way at the Volunteer at 11.15am, when there will be a light buffet and refreshments, after which the eagerly anticipated second round cup clash with Harlequins will kick off at 12.15pm. To round off the day, everyone is invited to adjourn to the bar for some post-match banter and more reminiscing.
