FRIDAY sees the second week of a pilot to bring rugby and football onto the streets of Hawick.
And kicking off the event will be Justice Minister Kenny McAskill, who is backing the joint initiative between Scottish Rugby and the Scottish Football Association to offer an evening of rugby and football in the Common Haugh for any secondary aged child.

Under the street lights, a temporary astro surface and inflatable pitch will offer the children a safe playing environment. To accompany the evening there will be an activity trailer which will offer computer games to be played in between activities.

Heading up the project is SRU regional development manager Brian Renwick, who told the Hawick News: "Offering this activity at this time of night is something different and we encourage youngsters to come along and join in, we are kicking off with rugby between 7pm and 8.30pm then the focus will be on football from 8.30pm until 10pm and it's free."

Should the weather be too bad the project will move indoors to the high school games hall.
