Hearts boss full of praise for red-hot Suso

HEARTS manager Jim Jefferies today heaped praise on winger Suso Santana following the Spaniard's scintillating performances this season.

Labelling him "unplayable" when on top form, Jefferies said the 25-year-old has evolved into a key player and is solely responsible for David Templeton's recent relegation to the substitutes' bench.

Suso delivered a quite mesmerising display at Pittodrie last weekend, with Jefferies explaining that he has shown a welcome willingness to adapt to Scottish football since arriving from CD Tenerife in 2009.

"Suso is a little bit more experienced than Temps at the moment and down that right hand side he's just been, at times, unplayable," said Jefferies.

"He had a fantastic couple of runs on Saturday, one in each half, which could have led to goals for us. It's his overall work rate, chasing back, winning the ball and sending us away - he's been in top form and it's great.

"He can be a little bit hot at times but as long as we keep him right and channel it the right way and put his aggression into determination to go and win the game. He's shown he can score a goal or two and he's done very well for me, particularly this year.

"Young Templeton has been unfortunate to be out of the side. I had a word with him and told him to keep his head up, he's a young boy and he's done nothing wrong. Sometimes the team is more important and you have to look at what makes us that little bit stronger because it's all about winning the game. If we win the game, everybody benefits. He (Templeton] will still play a major part."

Jefferies admitted that Andy Driver remains "a few weeks away" from a first-team return after injuring a thigh muscle in a closed-door game last month. However, Suso's form is helping compensate.

After last weekend's victory over Aberdeen, Jefferies urged his players to consolidate with home wins over Kilmarnock and, firstly, St Mirren.

"That becomes a tremendous result if you follow it up. We have two home games, they won't be easy St Mirren have their own agendas in terms of trying to get off the bottom."

Hearts striker David Witteveen will stay at Dundee for the rest of his three-month loan spell at troubled Dundee.
