Spoony aims to build on his rare goal at Hibs

Hibs kid David Wotherspoon today revealed his relief at finally ending his 64-game goal drought - and pledged to up his strike rate.

The midfield star claimed his first goal for the Easter Road club on his debut, setting Hibs on the path to victory against St Mirren on the opening day of last season.

But the 21-year-old had to wait until last weekend for his second, ensuring victory for the first time in 13 matches for Colin Calderwood's side - ironically against the Buddies.

Wotherspoon said: "Scoring a goal is one of the greatest feelings in the world, but the fact it was against St Mirren was just a coincidence.

"The fact I had to wait a little while to score my next goal did concern me a little bit but I just kept working as hard as I couild to get on the scoresheet."

And now Wotherspoon has his sights on becoming a more regular goalscorer, telling Hibs' official website: "It is something that I've been working on a bit recently and I've found myself getting into goalscoring opportunities more regularly. Hopefully it can continue and I can contribute some more goals for the team."

Wotherspoon will get the chance to do that when Hibs face Kilmarnock at Easter Road on Saturday, the Perth-born youngster disclosing he hopes an encounter with the Ayrshire club earlier this week will prove to be a good omen for Hibs.

Along with team-mates Paul Hanlon, Danny Galbraith and Callum Booth, Wotherspoon spent the start of this week with Billy Stark's Scotland Under-21 squad as they began their preparations for their next European Championship campaign, part of which involved a game against Mixu Paatelainen's team.

Wotherspoon said: "It went really well, we won 2-0."

Meanwhile, Hibs assistant boss Derek Adams faces another SFA hearing despite having won his appeal against a four-match touchline ban.

Calderwood's No.2 was found guilty of "excessive misconduct" while in charge of Ross County during the Co- operative Insurance Cup defeat to Dundee United last September.

It came as he completed a previous eight-match ban but while accepting an automatic two-game suspension, Adams launched an appeal against a further four-game ban.

But while successfully appealing that penalty, he'll be back at Hampden in March after being sent to the stand during Hibs' 2-0 defeat at Motherwell last month.
